Lorenzo Musetti targets Jannik Sinner's hard-court Major streak

by

Lorenzo Musetti and Jannik Sinner will determine the last semi-finalist at the US Open. The younger Italian is preparing for the biggest challenge of his career, determined to battle against world no. 1 and end his 25-match hard-court Major streak!

The two Italian know each other well. They have led the new wave of Italian men's tennis, the strongest in their history. Musetti and Sinner have fought for their country in the Davis Cup, and now it's time to see their third meeting.

This time, the stakes are higher than ever, with the previous encounters taking place in Antwerp and Monte Carlo. Jannik arrived in New York as the defending champion and one of the two favorites alongside Carlos Alcaraz.

The Italian has  won every hard-court match at Majors since the 2024 Australian Open, lifting three straight titles and chasing the fourth in New York. Still, Lorenzo sees opportunity in the pressure his rival carries as a clear favorite.

The younger Italian is enjoying his career-best hard-court run at Majors, and he wants more against the world's best player. For Musetti, the encounter against Sinner is more than just another quarter-final.

It's a chance to make history by defeating a played he has yet to overcome and by halting one of the most impressive runs in modern tennis on the most common surface.

While Jannik shoulders the expectations, Lorenzo enters the clash with freedom, chasing a massive upset under the bright lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium.

"Jannik is the best player in the world. Facing him is the greatest challenge in our sport. The idea of trying to break this incredible streak motivates me a lot. He is a champion who knows these conditions well.

However, the pressure must be on his side. I have to take advantage of that and try to win," Lorenzo Musetti said.
