LSU football has been battling it out with Ole Miss behind the scenes for months now, featuring everything from signing each other’s former staffers to convincing players from each team to transfer. Staffs are set, the portal is closed, and the two programs are now moving the fight to high school recruiting.
One recruit reportedly close with both programs is Braylon Calais, a Louisiana native and a consensus top-100 player in the class of 2027. Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman reports LSU head coach Lane Kiffin spent much of LSU’s recent junior day with Calais and visited his high school, Cecilia, earlier this week.

Spiegelman says Ole Miss is “working to close the gap” between them and LSU in Calais’ recruitment, but that the Tigers will be hard to beat.
Calais is a four-star athlete, but his recruitment appears to be focused on his playing wide receiver at the next level. He’s a top-75 recruit and the No. 4 athlete in the class, according to On3’s rankings.
Looking at Calais’ social media only furthers the idea that LSU is in a great spot in his recruitment. The following announcement is the pinned post on Calais’ “X” account:
The wide receivers coach Calais thanks in his post is Cortez Hankton, who is no longer on LSU’s staff. However, his replacement, George McDonald, recently visited Calais’ school and appears to be keeping the Tigers firmly in the race.

There’s still a long way to go before national signing day, and a lot can change between now and then. For now, though, it’s good to see Kiffin continuing to dominate the recruiting trail.
