Georgia women’s basketball (15-2, 1-2 SEC) had an iron grip on LSU (15-2, 1-2) during Thursday night’s 80-59 loss.
In the end, the claws beat the paws.
The Lady Bulldogs started off with a clean jumper from sophomore guard Trinity Turner, but quickly slipped into the rear view as the Tigers found their footing.

Georgia ended the first quarter down 19-15. It continued to deteriorate in the second quarter, trailing by as many as 14 before closing the gap to 10 at halftime, 38-28.
However, sophomore guard Dani Carnegie wasn’t going to let these Tigers come into her territory and push them around. Especially after losing sophomore forward Mia Woolfolk to injury early in the second half — she returned in the fourth quarter.
She defended her house.
At the end of the third quarter, the Georgia Tech transfer had recorded 22 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals to keep the Lady Bulldogs within single digits, 56-48.

Georgia’s starting five made a strong bid to come back in the final 10 minutes, but with the severe lack of bench contribution — LSU had 44 bench points, Georgia had 7 — the deal was done.
Carnegie finished with 24 points and 4 rebounds. Turner added 11 points and 7 rebounds, Woolfolk 8 points and 3 rebounds, junior guard Rylie Theuerkauf 7 points and freshman forward Zhen Craft 6 points and 7 rebounds.
Georgia will play next in Columbia, S.C., against Dawn Staley’s tough Gamecock squad. South Carolina (15-1, 2-0) is currently ranked No. 3 in the USA Today Coaches and AP Polls.
