NEW ORLEANS – They say you can’t go home again.
Kim Mulkey is from south Louisiana — Tangipahoa Parish to be exact — but she spent her college ball days in north Louisiana with Louisiana Tech, which she helped guide to a few national championships as a point guard and an assistant coach under legendary coach Leon Barmore.

After 21 years as the head coach at Baylor, Mulkey returned to Louisiana to head up the LSU women’s basketball program five years ago. Even before her return to her homestate, Mulkey has expressed her lack of desire to play Louisiana Tech in Ruston as the emotions of a matchup against her alma mater would be all over the place.

Well, it’s not in Ruston, but Mulkey and LSU are taking on the Lady Techsters (5-3) in the Compete 4 Cause Showcase inside the Smoothie King Center on Saturday (5 p.m. CT, ESPNU).
“It’s not emotion where you’re not going to coach hard, you’re going to feel torn. No,” Mulkey said Thursday afternoon of the game. “I’ve been at Baylor 21 years, I’ve been here five years now, but your memories last forever. The memories I have of my 19 years at Louisiana Tech will never dissolve. You just have flashbacks of all the things that we did at Louisiana Tech for a long period of time.”

Against Mulkey’s former team, No. 5 LSU (10-0) will look to remain undefeated as it plays its third neutral site game of the season so far.
Louisiana Tech has faced an SEC team in Arkansas and a ranked team in Baylor so far this season and lost both of those contests by a combined 168 to 127.
