Any doubts about Luka Doncic and LeBron James sharing the floor are quickly fading, and the Lakers’ recent win over the New Orleans Pelicans felt like a snapshot of what this partnership can become.
Both superstars scored 30 points in the victory, repeatedly finding each other for easy buckets and momentum-shifting highlights.
The loudest moment came on a lob from Doncic to James that stunned the crowd, and left Doncic shaking his head afterward.
“He’s been absolutely amazing,” Doncic said after the game according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN. “Just helping me out, helping others out, being super efficient on the field goals. … That’s Bron. He can do anything. Just really appreciate him. … We are playing better with each other, game by game. And this is just going to be improving more.”
For James to be performing at this level at 41 years old continues to defy precedent.
“It’s just insane,” Luka said of the athleticism Bron is able to still show. “Probably me at 41 I’ll be limping around.”
Their ability to operate both on and off the ball has made the Lakers’ offense far more dynamic.
That has stood out to head coach JJ Redick, who has been vocal about what he is seeing from his two cornerstones.
“He was awesome tonight,” Redick said according to Spectrum SportsNet.” Just kind of took over to start the fourth and that group got us the lead back. I love what’s happening right now with Luka and LeBron and that partnership. Whether it’s pick-and-roll with each other, we ran stack against their blitz, Jaxson gets a layup. Luka kinda tells LeBron back cut next time, he gets the lob on the very next play. There’s some real synergy happening right now that it’s fun to watch.”
