Carlos Ulberg has a preference on who emerges victorious in the UFC 320 headliner.
Ulberg (12-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) will look to close in on his first light heavyweight title shot when he meets Dominick Reyes (15-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 260 (ESPN+) main event at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.
One week later, light heavyweight champion Magomed Ankalaev (21-1-1 MMA, 12-1-1 UFC) runs things back with Alex Pereira (12-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and Ulberg had a surprising pick on who he’d rather face.
“I’ve always seen Ankalaev as a big threat. So is ‘Poatan,'” Ulberg told Submission Radio. “He’s got the power. He’s got the goods. But yeah, I’m sitting on the fence. I’d like Ankalaev to get that win because I know what I can do with him.”
Ulberg knows his striking style against Pereira’s would make for a great stylistic matchup, but explains why he still wants it to be Ankalaev.
“That would be massive, and that’s always been a fight that I’d love to do because he’s tough,” Ulberg said of Pereira. “But I mean, from what I’ve heard, I’m not too sure how. I mean, he’s paid his dues and he’s done a great job in the UFC, and I just feel like Ankalaev could be in the game a little longer. I think he’s a bit younger, too.”
