For the first time in nearly four years, fight fans will see Manny Pacquiao back in the ring. The Filipino legend’s fight against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios, scheduled for 12 rounds, takes place Saturday, July 19 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
This marks the first time Pacquiao, 46, has fought since August 2021 when he dropped a unanimous decision to Yordenis Ugas. Against Barrios, 30, Pacquiao will try to make history again as the oldest man to win a welterweight title. Pacquiao (62-8-2) already owns that distinction as, in July 2019, he defeated Keith Thurman by split decision to claim the WBA welterweight title at 40.
Barrios was a perfect 26-0 before losing two consecutive fights against Gervonta Davis (June 2021) and Thurman (February 2022). Since then, Barrios (29-2-1) is 3-0-1 with wins over Jovanie Santiago, Ugas, Fabian Maidana, and most recently a split draw with Abel Ramos last November on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson undercard.
Will Pacquiao do the unthinkable and pull off the win as a +210 betting underdog (via FanDuel)? We’ll find out Saturday night in “Sin City.”
