England fast bowler Mark Wood is all set to meet a knee specialist in London to evaluate a recurring left knee injury that ended his Ashes 2025-26 campaign abruptly in Australia last month.
Injury nightmare continues as Mark Wood seeks specialist help
Mark Wood was ruled out of the recent five-match Test series in the middle of the Ashes 2025-26 in Australia after his left knee problem returned once again. He had been struggling with this knee for some time now. The injury first troubled him during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
After that, the senior fast bowler even went through surgery to fix the issue. Although he returned to action, the knee has continued to trouble him, and the hard conditions in Australia have only made things worse.

In the first Ashes Test at Perth, it was clear that Wood was not feeling comfortable. The Englishman bowled only 11 overs in Perth and looked in pain while running in. Because of this, England decided not to include him in the second Test at Brisbane.
With the knee problem coming back again in full force, Wood’s Ashes campaign sadly ended without playing a proper Test. Later, England lost the Ashes series to Australia 1-4.
Mark Wood to meet knee specialist as career faces a big question
Now, as reported by the Daily Mail, Mark Wood is set to meet a knee specialist in London on Friday (January 16). The Fortius Clinic’s famous knee surgeons, Andy Williams and Simon Ball, who have treated Wood over the years, will fully assess the injury, understand the damage, and prepare a clear recovery and rehabilitation plan.
This assessment is also important for Wood’s future, as it will help him understand whether he can continue playing international cricket and how long his recovery might take.
When the knee injury left Wood ‘Gutted’
Wood wrote on Instagram: “Gutted to be out for the remainder of the Ashes. After extensive surgery and seven long, hard months of work and rehab to get back into the Test arena, my knee just hasn’t held up. None of us expected this. I came here with high expectations about making a big impact. I’m desperately disappointed that despite yet more injections and intensive medical treatment, it has become clear that the flare-up in my knee is worse than feared.”

The bowler added, “I’m really sorry that it has left me unable to perform as expected, but it is not for want of trying. Whatever happens, I will continue to push the limits to get back again. It has been a tough road these past few months, but I remain determined to give it another proper go. I still believe we can turn things around. Never give in. Come on, England.”

Mark Wood is one of England’s fastest ever bowlers and a true match-winner. Since making his England debut in 2015, Wood has represented England in all three formats. He has played 38 tests, taking 119 wickets, delivering spells above 150 kmph.
He also represented England in 70 ODIs and scalped 80 wickets. He was a key part of England’s 2019 World Cup-winning team. Wood has also played 38 T20Is, taking 54 wickets. Despite repeated injuries, his speed, courage, and impact make him a special bowler for England.
