Matt Cardona Gets Heated Over Wrestlers Using “Jobber” Label

by

Matt Cardona has been around the wrestling business long enough to know all the lingo—but there’s one term he absolutely can’t stand.

In a recent chat with Bobby Fish, Cardona made it very clear: calling someone a “jobber” is one of the most disrespectful things you can do in the industry. According to Cardona, the insult stings not just because it’s demeaning—but because it mocks someone for doing exactly what the business asks of them.

“I don’t like the term jobber, because what—you’re making fun of me because I did my job? That is my number one most hated word in the entire business.”

What frustrates him even more is how that same word has made its way into the locker room vernacular among current talent—a far cry from the way things were when he started in WWE back in 2007.

“And what makes me even more mad—and this is probably going to get me some heat with the boys listening—I hate that the boys have started to use it. You know what I’m saying? I can’t believe I’m going to say ‘back in my day,’ but when I was in WWE starting in 2007, nobody was calling each other, ‘Oh, you’re a jobber.’”

Cardona added that there was a mutual respect in the locker room back then, regardless of where someone was on the card. That respect, he claims, has started to erode as the term “jobber” gets thrown around more freely.

“No one was saying that in the business. No one was calling the guy over there changing, still busting his ass, a jobber. Nobody. But now the wrestlers have started calling other people that, and then the fans think it’s okay. Oh God. That’s my pet peeve.”

Cardona’s words cut deeper than just a personal gripe—they reflect a broader shift in the way wrestlers treat each other and how fans mimic that behavior. For a performer who has spent nearly two decades grinding in and out of the spotlight, his message is simple: respect the work, no matter who’s doing it.
