Maxxine Dupri Shuts Down Talk That AJ Lee Overshadowed Her Title Win on WWE RAW

Maxxine Dupri just captured the biggest win of her WWE career—but not without some controversy. After defeating Becky Lynch on the November 17 episode of RAW to become the new Women’s Intercontinental Champion, some fans claimed her victory was all thanks to AJ Lee’s shocking return.

Now, Dupri is setting the record straight. Speaking on the RAW Recap Show, Dupri made it clear that AJ Lee’s presence didn’t take anything away from her title win. In fact, she believes it made the moment even more powerful.

“I wasn’t even thinking about being overshadowed because I firmly believe that if you use a candle to light another candle, the first one doesn’t lose its flame,” Dupri said. “There’s room for both of us to shine, and I think we proved that tonight. Did you hear the crowd when she came out? It was insane. When Jess hit the three-count, I had an out-of-body experience like, ‘Ohhh, we did it.’”

Dupri also said she had no clue AJ was going to show up, calling it a complete shock. But in hindsight, she believes AJ did what she always does—stand up for what’s right.

“Was I expecting AJ Lee to come out and help me? No! I was shocked to my core. But I think it’s a testament to who she is as a person. She will stand up to a bully, and that’s what Becky is. I think she saw in the last two matches that Becky took the easy way out—countout and DQ. She was done letting that happen. If Becky wanted to play that game, AJ wanted her to finish it. AJ didn’t even touch her.”

With Becky Lynch’s disqualification and count-out finishes in their previous encounters, Dupri believes this was karma coming full circle—and AJ just made sure the playing field stayed fair.

Maxxine Dupri’s win wasn’t just a fluke or a fluke assist. She sees it as a shared moment, not a stolen one. And with the Women’s Intercontinental Title now around her waist, she’s ready to show the world exactly why that moment mattered.
