The Miami (Ohio) University swimming and diving team kicked off the four-day Miami University Invitational on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center against seven other teams.
After day three the Miami women’s team is in first place with 1117 points. Other placements include the University of Notre Dame in second (1110), Indiana State University in third (751.5), Marshall University in fourth (703), the University of Indianapolis in fifth (551), Illinois State University in sixth (385.5), Valparaiso University in seventh (73) and Ouachita Baptist University in eighth (71). The men’s team is in third place with 1115 points. Other placements include the University of Notre Dame in first (1192.5), the University of Indianapolis in second (1150.5), the University Ouachita Baptist University in fourth (634) and Valparaiso University in fifth (363).
Miami Day 1
The meet opened with Miami and Marshall tying for the win in the 800 free relay.
Miami’s Chrisna Bezuidenhout, Julia Waechter, Gracie Gregory and Kaylin Herbert finished in 7:20.11, as did Marshall’s Molly Warner, Madison Emment, Elyse Wood and Preslava Tosheva.
Indy won the men’s 800 free relay in 6:28.69 with Jan Schmidt, Silas Buessing, Harrison Andoko and Swann Plaza.
Miami took second with Elijah Rolfsen, Ian Rodrigues, Bryce Menchhofer and Owen Hoban finishing in 6:33.86.
Miami Day 2
Miami got the win in the 200 free relay with Kaylin Herbert, Natalie Gilson, Julia Waechter and Jenna Halliday getting to the wall in 1:31.33, ahead of Notre Dame (1:31.51).
Herbert won the 200 IM in 2:00.34, just ahead of Marshall’s Molly Warner (2:00.39).
Notre Dame’s Lainey Mullins won the women’s 500 free in 4:44.78.
Indianapolis’ Kirabo Namutebi won the 50 free in 22.31.
Miami’s Sydney Rice won 3-meter diving with a 289.30 score.
Notre Dame’s Emily Hamill, Mary Codevilla, Becky Rentz and Hollie Widdows won the 400 medley relay in 3:37.75.
On the men’s side, Notre Dame won the men’s 200 free relay as Shane Eckler, Marcus Reyes-Gentry, Min-Gyo Jang and Jack Armour finished in 1:18.42.
Eckler won the 50 free in 19.43. He teamed with Reyes-Genry, Armour and Dillon Edge to win the 400 medley relay in a pool-record 3:08.81.
The men’s 500 win went to University of Indianapolis’ Swann Plaza (4:16.21) in a pool record.
Indianapolis’ Jeremias Pock won the 200 IM in 1:44.71.
Miami’s Tuck Gregory won the 1-meter board (330.15).
Miami Day 3
Notre Dame’s Hollie Widdows won the 100 fly in 52.96 and 200 free (1:47.10) in a stunning double. Lainey Mullins won the 400 IM (4:15.59).
Indy’s Celina Schmidt won the 100 breaststroke (1:01.69).
Marshall’s Kseniia Luniushina won the 100 back (52.82).
Indiana State’s Jecza Lopez won 1-meter diving (275.80).
Notre Dame’s Lente Geelen, Mary Codevilla, Becky Rentz and Widdows won the 200 medley relay (1:39.74).
In the men’s meet, Indianapolis’ Elias Noe won the 100 fly in 46.60. Jeremias Pock won the 100 breast (54.64).
Notre Dame’s Gus Mac Donald won the 400 IM (3:51.02). Eckler won the 200 free (1:35.10). Reyes-Gentry won the 100 back (47.37).
Zach Oswald, Armour, Reyes-Gentry and Eckler won the 200 medley relay (1:24.99).
Miami’s Paul Hong won 3-meter diving (357.10).
