Cowboys LB Micah Parsons is still unsigned by Dallas and, with that, his trade request still stands. Now, with his potential availability at least in question, other teams could consider making a real move for him across the NFL.
‘Get Up’ discussed the latest regarding Parsons’ ongoing situation in Dallas on Thursday. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler began that by reporting on the trade request, noting a handful of teams, including possibly ones within the division, would be in on making a deal for one of the best defensive players in the league while adding that the Cowboys are still unlikely to even do it.
“I checked with a source. I was told, as far as potentially missing games if a trade doesn’t happen? He’s more focused on getting traded. That is his objective right now,” Fowler said. “I’m told there are at least five or six teams that would be interested, if Dallas is even willing to do it – including, possibly, in his own division, by the way.”
“But Dallas has shown no willingness to move him,” mentioned Fowler. “I haven’t talked to anybody in Dallas who expects him to be outside of the team this year. That’s some perspective.”
Considering all things, this has become the biggest story around the National Football League. Parsons, having been a Pro Bowler in all four seasons of his career while also earning recognitions or consideration as All-Pro, Defensive Player of the Year, and even MVP in each of those seasons, has already set himself apart as one of the league’s best with seventeen-game averages of 69.1 tackles, 17 for loss, with 14.2 sacks and 2.2 forced fumbles with 1.1 recoveries. That likely would have made him an easy, straightforward signing for almost every franchise in the National Football League.
Now for America’s Team, though. To this point, this contract negotiation has gotten complicated, whether rightfully or not, between Parsons and Dallas, leading to Parsons’ request last week. Still, it’s just the most recent, frustrating circumstances when it comes to the Cowboys doing business.
“It’s just a hot mess. It’s a hot mess,” said ESPN’s Damien Woody. “And, listen. My thing is, we’ve got to understand who Jerry Jones is. Jerry Jones is a Hall of Fame marketer, okay. Jerry Jones has a flare for the theatrics, and that’s what this is. It’s all theatrics. Anything, any type of publicity when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys is good publicity in Jerry Jones’ eyes. Now, this whole contract, the handshake and all that stuff? You know damn well that man has an agent. That’s what he gets paid for. And so this nonsense, this nonsense, ‘Oh, you know, I was negotiating, agreeing to deals on handshake deals’ – what does that have to do with Micah Parsons in 2025? Absolutely nothing. He has an agent. Go to his agent. If you had this deal, then go to his agent and see if that same deal holds up. If not, none of it matters. None of it matters.”
“I mean, the players are clearly frustrated, not even with Micah Parsons. And, you know, you put it on, you talk about how Jerry is the ultimate marketer, right? The players are like, we’re trying to win a Super Bowl, man. Like, why are we marketing?” Fowler responded. “This is a slam dunk – age, injury, production. There is no blemish here – none. I mean, a little bit of an ankle injury last year. This is an easy decision. I think that’s where players are grappling with this…This guy, you could argue, is the very best at his position right now, outside of maybe Myles Garrett…That’s the issue here. They’re going on this two years in a row, with CeeDee Lamb and Dak last year and now Micah Parsons. It’s a distraction. There’s no way around it.”
If that isn’t irritating enough, both Fowler and Woody thought this wouldn’t matter in the end as each would be stunned if the Cowboys actually moved Parsons. They, like other analysts, think this is all for show, at least for now, before Dallas does eventually sign him ahead of the start of the season.
“I would be an eight (out of ten) on the shocked scale,” said Fowler. “Yeah, I would be highly shocked.”
“I would be shocked because Jerry Jones always pays his stars,” Woody said. “Like, at the end of the day, with all the theatrics that goes on with the Cowboys and Jerry Jones, he ultimately pays his stars.”
Other teams would obviously be willing to acquire Parsons if they could. That said, it looks like this headline will just be continuing on with the Cowboys at a standstill with him still amidst his request out.
