The long, dreaded college football offseason has only just begun, but we have now learned specific details about when we will see the Michigan Wolverines back at the Big House for the annual Spring Game.
Announced by the program on Monday, Michigan will play in its yearly scrimmage on Saturday, April 18. More specific details will follow, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see this game be played at noon, per usual. Spring practices will also begin on Tuesday, March 17.

Another thing that was announced was something quite unique — the Wolverines have named four players as captains for the spring. Those players are Bryce Underwood, Jordan Marshall, Trey Pierce and Rod Moore. But that isn’t all! Michigan also named 11 players to its Spring 2026 Leadership Council. Those players include:

The spring captains and the leadership council members were voted on by their peers. The captains and leadership council for the 2026 season will be elected during fall camp.
The leadership council is new to the Michigan Football program and is something Kyle Whittingham did when he was at Utah. It’s unclear what these players will exactly do, but when Whittingham was at Utah, the players that were elected to those leadership councils “will help foster team unity, provide input to the coaching staff, and ensure accountability within the program going forward.”
As far as the Spring Game goes, fans should be looking forward to seeing the Wolverines back in action, not only because we all love football, but because of how different this team will be under Whittingham.

Michigan lost 25 players to the transfer portal this winter, but gained 19 players through the portal as well. The Wolverines lost a few key players such as linebacker Cole Sullivan, defensive back TJ Metcalf and running back Justice Haynes, but they also brought in All-American pass rusher John Henry Daley, cornerback Smith Snowden, wide receivers JJ Buchanan and Jaime Ffrench, and true freshman athlete Salesi Moa, to name a few, to help mitigate those losses.
All in all, Whittingham and company have done as good of a job as they could have to set Michigan up for success in 2026.
In addition, we’ll get to see Underwood’s progression so far this offseason under quarterbacks coach Koy Detmer Jr. and offensive coordinator Jason Beck. We’ll also get a glimpse at the new-look defense led by Jay Hill. It’s unclear if Daley will participate as he heals from a lower-body injury, but we should be able to get a good look at new contributors like Snowden, defensive lineman Jonah Lea’ea, defensive back Chris Bracy and others.
