Michigan Men’s, Women’s Basketball in AP Top-10 at same time for first time ever

by

Mondays in the college basketball season mean that the AP Polls are out, and both the Michigan men’s and women’s basketball programs are in the Top-10. This is the first time both programs are ranked in the AP Top-10 in school history.

The men’s team dropped one spot to No. 7, second in the Big Ten behind No. 1 Purdue. The women’s team jumped up to No. 6 after an impressive win against Notre Dame over the weekend.

The men’s team is coming off two victories that were each a little too close to comfort, beating Wake Forest at Little Caesars Arena by two points and winning at TCU by four.

The No. 6 ranking for the women’s team is the second-highest ranking in program history and the highest ranking since Michigan was ranked No. 6 on Feb. 21, 2022, per the program. That ranking is second among Big Ten teams, with UCLA being ranked No. 3.

The women’s team had a more impressive week than the men’s squad, blowing out No. 18 Notre Dame — the team that knocked them out of the Round of 32 in last season’s NCAA Tournament — in the Shamrock Classic, 93-54.

The men’s team isn’t in action again until Wednesday, as Michigan will host Middle Tennessee for one of the few buy games on the schedule. That game is set to tip-off at 6:30 p.m. on Big Ten Network.

As for the women’s team, the Wolverines return to Ann Arbor to host Binghamton (Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. on B1G+) before a date with the No. 1 team in the country in UConn at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday (8 p.m. on FOX).
