DENVER – Mickey Moniak has found the best version of himself with the Rockies.
Moniak extended his on-base streak to 15 games with a first-inning home run in Tuesday night’s 8-4 victory over the Cardinals at Coors Field.
The homer was Moniak’s 15th of the season, a career best. He has nine homers in his last 19 games at home, but after a slow start he has hit everywhere – .348 with 12 home runs in 36 games since May 25. He went 2-for-4 with an eighth-inning bases-loaded walk, two RBIs and two runs scored on Tuesday.
A first overall pick in 2016 with the Phillies, Moniak, 27, showed enough potential with the Phils that the Angels took him in a 2022 trade, and he batted .280 in 85 games for them in 2023. The Angels released him in a partly payroll-driven move at the end of this spring. The Rockies signed him.
The performance is one of a player who has found a home. But the Trade Deadline is July 31. With Moniak a second-year arbitration-eligible player at season’s end, the Rockies looking to win later and possessing prospect depth in the outfield, teams doing their due diligence may consider approaching the Rockies about him.
