Practice, Schloesser revealed, however, has been harder before Lausanne.
“Five months ago, my baby girl was born, and practice has been a bit rougher. Before, the only thing I needed to take care of was my daily schedule.”
“Now that I’ve got a baby to take care of, it’s a bit more difficult to plan my training,” he added.
The World Games victor’s wife, Gaby, is also participating this week in recurve women and finished inside the top 10, scoring 575 [39 10s] as eighth seed.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t the reigning Indoor World Series gold medallist from the discipline, Casey Kaufhold, that ended qualifications on top but Italy’s Roberta Di Francesco.
She superseded the American (587) by seven points to pole with 594, one 10 away from equalling Ryoo Sujung‘s world record of 595.
Di Francesco has only ever medalled internationally in field events, topping the podium at the Lac La Biche 2024 World Archery Field Championships and gaining bronze in Chengdu, but looks certain to be in contention for what would be her first successful individual foray in target archery.
Indoors, in particular, is an environment she has only just become accustomed to competition-wise, as the 2025 Nimes Archery Tournament was her maiden entry on the Indoor World Series.
“I was shooting at 18 metres; it wasn’t going that bad,” revealed the Antalya 2025 team silver medallist. “I was like, if I don’t start now, then I won’t likely start, because I like 70 metres more. I thought, ‘it’s near Italy, even in the car, so why not?’”
Competition continues this evening in Lausanne, with recurve and compound eliminations this afternoon and then the individual finals this evening. You can finals live on archery+.
