Minnesota Wins All 26 Events in Sweeping Nebraska, South Dakota
Minnesota had no trouble in its season debut, sweeping all 26 events to prevail in a tri-meet with Nebraska and South Dakota Friday in Minneapolis.
Minnesota won both women’s meets by more than 130 points, plus a 196-47 win over South Dakota. Nebraska topped South Dakota in the other women’s meet.

Minnesota went 1-2 in all but two events.
Katie McCarthy led the onslaught for the Golden Gophers, going 9:57.75 to win the 1,000 freestyle and 4:51.80 to claim the 500 free. McCarthy also scored a win in the 200 individual medley with her time of 2:03.36.
Minnesota won both relays. Morgan Thomas and Livi Wanner swam on both quartets, the 200 medley going 1:39.90 and the 200 free clocking in at 1:32.30. Thomas’s time of 22.67 edged Wanner to the win in the 50 free. Elna Widerstrom swept both diving events, with teammate Viviana Del Angel Peniche second both times.
Jade Roghair (200 free), Rachel Conley (200 fly), Mina Kaljevic (100 free), Finnly Jollands (200 back) and Kiera Mullins (200 breast) added wins for Minnesota.
The only interruption of the Minnesota top-two dominance was Nebraska’s Gena Jorgenson. She finished second in the 500 free, .08 seconds behind McCarthy. She was also second in the 1,000 free, less than 1.5 seconds behind McCarthy.
Ryan Slonac led the men’s side in the win, showing his versatility. He went 20.39 to win the 50 free, then 1:46.66 to claim the 200 back. Slonac anchored the winning 200 free relay that included 200 fly winner Jacob Johnson (1:47.25). Second in the 200 fly was Daniel Eichel, who won the 200 free. Andrew Bennett swept diving, scoring 351.80 points on 1-meter and 370.25 on 3-meter.
South Dakota’s best swim came via Nick Rounds, who went 20.44 to finish second in the 50 free.
