LAS VEGAS — Mitch Marner scored his first two goals since joining the Golden Knights, helping them open a 5-1 lead over the Calgary Flames through two periods on Saturday night.
Marner, acquired in a trade with Toronto over the summer, opened the scoring just 46 seconds into the game, bringing the home crowd to life immediately.
The 28-year-old forward used his crafty stick work to extend Vegas' lead to four goals just before the end of the second period when he gathered a pass from captain Mark Stone on a power play, skated to the front of the crease and went forehand-backhand to beat Calgary netminder Dustin Wolf.
