Mitchell Marsh gives Pakistan and Bangladesh a reality check over their T20 World Cup 2026 drama: The entire cricket world has been shaken by Pakistan’s stance not to take field against India for the T20 World Cup 2026. Pakistan is scheduled to play against India on February 15 in Colombo. But the match is under uncertainty, as the Government of Pakistan has decided to boycott the high-profile match.
A Pakistani journalist tried to gain some traction by asking Australia T20I skipper Mitchell Marsh a couple of questions—one was related to Pakistan’s boycott call, and the other one was related to Bangladesh. On both occasions, Marsh offered the Pakistani journalist almost the same reply.
Pakistan set to boycott their T20 World Cup 2026 match against India
On February 1, Australia faced the home team Pakistan for the 3rd of the 3-match T20I series at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. By the end of the match, the Pakistan Government announced their decision over the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan match.

Through a social media post, it was announced that the Pakistan government has decided not to play the match against India on February 15 but will take part in the T20 World Cup 2026.
Mitchell Marsh shows a Pakistani reporter the mirror
After the Pakistan vs Australia match in Lahore, when Mitchell Marsh joined the post-match press conference, a Pakistani journalist asked him a couple of questions. It was certain that the replies from the Australian skipper must not make the journalist happy enough.
“Just came to know about the Pakistan-India match on the 15th of February. You know, Pakistan is going to boycott the Pakistan-India match. So, your point of view, if you want to add some words about this,” the reporter raised the issue to Mitchell Marsh.
In reply, the cricketer said that their focus is entirely on the T20 World Cup 2026, not on any other topic. So he did not make any specific comment on Pakistan.
“Yeah, I don’t really have a comment on that at this point in time. You know, we’re going to the World Cup to just focus on what we’re doing, and we’ll let that stuff take care of itself,” Mitchell Marsh replied.
Question over safety
The second question from the report was, “ICC full member Bangladesh is not going to participate in this World Cup due to security concerns. As a player, how do you feel that an ICC full member is not going to participate in this World Cup?”
Mitchell Marsh responded almost in a similar manner. But this time, he added that they have trust in security protocols.
“Yeah, I think the same goes for my previous answer, that we’re going to the World Cup to try and win it, and we’re solely focused on that. And as the Australian team, we trust the people who are in place to keep us safe, and that’s all I’ll say,” he replied.
It is worth noting that Bangladesh did not want to travel to India for safety and security concerns. The Bangladesh Cricket Board wanted to play the T20 World Cup 2026 matches outside of India. But as Mitchell Marsh mentioned, “We trust the people who are in place to keep us safe, and that’s all I’ll say,” reflecting possible top-notch security arrangements for the teams in the T20 World Cup 2026.
