Following the conclusion of the India series, the Aussies will host the England National Cricket Team for a high-octane Ashes series that will be played across November, December, and January.
Meanwhile, Mitchell Marsh stated that the Aussies love playing against India and will engage in the series at a perfect time in the lead-up to the Ashes and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
“We’ll have all the guys building towards the Ashes but everyone loves playing against India,” he told foxsports.com.au.
“We’ve got a great rivalry and great respect for them as a team. I think it’s literally perfect timing to be playing against India in the lead-up to an Ashes series. It’s going to be massive.”
Mitchell Marsh to lead Australia in Pat Cummins’ absence
Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the entirety of the white-ball series against India as he continues his recovery from lumbar bone stress. Also, the Aussie selectors have announced the ODI squad for the three-match series and the T20I squad only for the first two games.
In the absence of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Marsh will continue to lead in the ODI series while Mitchell Starc has made his comeback to the side. Matt Renshaw has earned a recall and is in line for an ODI debut.
However, Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the ODI squad following his horror show with the bat in the last 10 innings.
Mitchell Owen is also in line for his ODI debut, while Cameron Green will feature in the 50-over games against India, but is not part of the T20I squad. On the contrary, Sean Abbott has been named in the T20I squad, but not the ODI squad.
Star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has missed out on selection in the T20I squad due to an injury, but is hoping to recover for the last three games.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to be seen in action
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been named in the India ODI squad, but the former has been sacked as captain with Shubman Gill replacing him in the role.
In another major development, Shreyas Iyer has been named as the ODI vice-captain following his success in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with three different teams.
