MJF is taking his mind games international—and now he’s coming for the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship.
During the July 16 episode of CMLL Informa, Maxwell Jacob Friedman issued a challenge to Averno, all in an effort to get inside Mistico’s head.
The former AEW World Champion didn’t hold back. Wearing the same mask he ripped off Mistico at AEW Grand Slam: Mexico, MJF delivered a pointed promo and made his intentions crystal clear.
“I want to take everything Mistico holds dear,” MJF said. “I’ll put that title around the waist of a true American hero.”
No official date has been set for the title bout, but MJF is already setting the tone—and it’s pure psychological warfare.
Promotional lines haven’t stopped him before. MJF showed up at MLW Summer of the Beasts and blindsided Mistico, even reuniting briefly with Alex Hammerstone in the process. Mistico later fired back in an interview, vowing that he’d cross any promotion line necessary to get his hands on “The Devil.”
Averno, for his part, has yet to officially respond. But with MJF now targeting CMLL gold, fans are already speculating that the match could be announced any day.
MJF isn’t just playing the long game—he’s playing dirty, and Mistico may have no choice but to meet him on his terms.
