MLB, PitchCom announce six-year extension

by

Major League Baseball (MLB) today announced a six-year agreement with PitchCom, extending its league-wide vendor relationship that provides patented, award-winning signal-calling systems to every Major League Club and Triple-A affiliate through at least the 2031 season.

First adopted for usage in MLB games in 2022, the PitchCom System has become an integral part of baseball’s efforts towards improving pace of play. Since 2023, PitchCom has seamlessly worked in tandem with the Pitch Clock, the hallmark of the rule changes, to help facilitate a crisper pace, more action and better aesthetics. The Pitch Clock particularly benefited young fans and families, who can watch the endings of games in the ballpark and from home much more easily.

In 2025, the third season of the Pitch Clock continued to generate crisper games highlighted by more action and less dead time. MLB’s average game time for the 2025 season was 2:38, representing the third consecutive season that time of game clocked in at 2:40 or below. The ’25 campaign marked the first time in 40 years (1983-85) that MLB’s average game time was 2:40 or lower for three straight years. In addition, there were only three nine-inning games that lasted 3:30 or longer in the 2025 season, compared to 391 such games in 2021.

Commissioner of Baseball Robert D. Manfred, Jr. said: “PitchCom is an example of on-field technology that gained widespread acceptance in a short period of time, which is a tribute to its product. From the perspective of both deterring sign-stealing and promoting better pace of play, PitchCom has been one of the answers that has helped us better serve our fans.”

John Hankins, co-owner of PitchCom, said: “We appreciate the trust that MLB has shown in PitchCom in extending our relationship. With MLB leading the way on technology, now every major professional league using in-game electronic communication relies on PitchCom to uphold competitive integrity and enhance the pace of play. And soon PitchCom will be standard equipment for all teams competing in the World Baseball Classic.”
