MM 10.2: Maryland women’s basketball names 2025-26 team captains

by

Maryland women’s basketball named its captains for the 2025-26 season: redshirt senior guard Saylor Poffenbarger, graduate guard/forward Mir McLean and senior guard Yarden Gorzon.

Poffenbarger and McLean are named Terps’ fans should know well. Poffenbarger grew into a crucial starting role down the stretch of the regular season, although an injury limited her playing time in the postseason. McLean was a key cog off the bench, averaging six points and six rebounds per game in the Terps’ March Madness stretch.

Garzon, an Indiana transfer, is a bit more of a wild-card pick in her first season as a Terp. But don’t let that take away from what she can provide Maryland on the court. She recorded 14.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game in 2024-25 while also shooting 40.7% from 3-point range, on her way to an All-Big Ten second team nod.
