Mohammad Amir takes a dig India’s combination: South Africa defeated India by a margin of 76 runs in the first game of Group 1 of the Super 8 stages, last Sunday, at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. After West Indies’ win by 107 runs against Zimbabwe, India’s qualification scenario has been in a dilemma, with two must win games against Zimbabwe and West Indies.
Ahead of the Zimbabwe match, former pacer Mohammad Amir has yet again taken a dig at the India National Cricket Team, as he believes the reigning champions will not qualify for the semi-finals and he has stuck to his comments on a recent interview on a Pakistani media channel.
‘I always say that we should respect opinions’- Mohammad Amir
Amir’s prediction has been on point for the moment. As India’s chances of qualifying for the last four has been grim. Amir was asked, ‘You said that he might not reach the semi-finals, but now we can see the branches of the semi-finals. What do you have to say?

Mohammad Amir replied, “Look, Shahzaib bhai, earlier also, the cricketing knowledge that we had, because South Africa was playing cricket, so I spoke according to that. I always say that we should respect opinions. Your opinion can be different, mine can be different. I was speaking according to my cricketing knowledge.”

“Because if you look at the overall match-up, the match between South Africa and India yesterday, you can see that they have a very balanced side. You can’t write them off. And the way they have played cricket, they are playing consistently. If you look at their record from the 2024 World Cup till now, South Africa is the most dangerous side. So, where the credit is due, we should give it.”

Mohammad Amir also talked about the backlash he had to face after he shared his opinion after being asked to pick his semi-finalist, where he picked West Indies and South Africa from Group 1 instead of India as he believed that Suryakumar Yadav’s side will not be making into the last four of the major event in a talkshow named ‘Hasna Mana Hain.’
Amir further added, “And I think some people didn’t like our opinion there. In fact, a lot of people didn’t like it. They also give opinions about Pakistan. We have never reacted like this. Because if we are talking about cricket, then I think we should respect the opinion of cricket. The one who plays good cricket wins.”
Amir takes a swipe at India’s combination
Mohammad Amir also pointed out on team India’s wrong combination, as they made Axar Patel sit out against the Proteas, who has been the vice-captain of the side as well and has performed against the Proteas as well. He also talked about India’s batting collapse since the start of the tournament.
Amir continued, “And you can see the combination of the Indian team. I am not saying that you should see their overall combination. They also made Kuldeep sit, and he is the match-winner. Being a left-arm wrist spinner is a blessing in the team. And then he made Axar Patel sit. They are making their own mistakes.”
“And when I was talking about them, I was saying that they are having a hard time. You can see their batting throughout the tournament. Their batting was collapsing, even against small teams. Although I believe that there is no small or big team in cricket, but still, if you look at them against the Netherlands and against the USA, their team was collapsing.’
