Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav Pick Up a Wicket Each
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma opted to bat first after winning the toss. Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton added only 12 runs in the opening five overs. India created an early chance when Markram edged Jasprit Bumrah, but KL Rahul dropped a straightforward catch at slip.
The pair settled in after the reprieve and added 82 runs before Bumrah returned for a short burst. He provided the breakthrough by dismissing Markram for 38 just moments before the tea break. South Africa reached the interval at 82/1.
India struck again immediately after play resumed. Kuldeep Yadav came into the attack and removed Rickelton for 35 in his very first over, giving India two wickets in four balls. However, South Africa rebuilt with another partnership.
At the time of writing, South Africa were 156/2 after 36 overs, with Temba Bavuma (36) and Tristan Stubbs (32) at the crease.
South Africa Shocked India by Clinching the First Test in Kolkata
South Africa shocked India by clinching the first Test in Kolkata. They secured a 30-run win and hold a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Under head coach Gautam Gambhir, India have suffered four losses in their last six Tests on home soil, including a 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand last year.
In the series opener at Eden Gardens, Temba Bavuma’s men delivered a memorable performance, defending a target of 124 to seal a historic victory. India now aim to bounce back strongly in Guwahati and save the series.
Rishabh Pant has taken over the captaincy with Shubman Gill sidelined by a neck issue. India made two changes for the must-win Test in Guwahati. Sai Sudharsan replaced Gill, while Nitish Kumar Reddy came in for Axar Patel.
