If new Michigan State football head coach Pat Fitzgerald wants to seriously ingratiate himself to the MSU fans, he could do a lot worse than bringing back a beloved former Spartan to join his coaching staff, even better if that former player is also a rising name in the college football coaching world. On Wednesday night, it was reported by Jim Comparoni of On3 that the Spartans are bringing in Max Bullough for a Co-Defensive Coordinator and linebackers coach position alongside the returning Joe Rossi.
According to the report, Joe Rossi will remain the primary defensive coordinator and call plays, while also moving to coach the safeties. This makes a ton of sense, as it has been rumored for a while that Rossi would eventually like to find a head coaching role, so the Spartans can bring Bullough along slowly as a defensive coordinator until Rossi finds that next gig.

Of course, it’s also a good fit given the fact that Max Bullough is a beloved Spartan from one of the best eras of Michigan State football history, and will help remind fans of a great period before a turbulent couple of years. Aside from that, Bullough has been considered a rising star in the coaching world and this is an A-plus hire by Fitzgerald who was able to lure Bullough away from Notre Dame.
