MSU women’s basketball star named to Women’s College Player of the Year Watchlist

by

One of Robyn Fralick’s biggest moves in her role as head coach the Michigan State women’s basketball team was landing Oregon transfer Grace VanSlooten for the Spartans. VanSlooten has been a force for MSU since first arriving in East Lansing, and now, she’s starting to get some hype as a player of the year contender.

On Thursday, VanSlooten was officially named to the Naismith Trophy Women’s College Player of the Year Watch List, a prestigious list honoring the best players in the country. This is another big step in the career of VanSlooten, who was a finalist for the Cheryl Miller Award last season.

VanSlooten is listed as a forward, hence why she was a finalist for the Cheryl Miller award, given to the top small forward in the country, but she likes to spend most of her time on the interior, bullying other players with her 6-foot-3 frame. She averaged 15.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game last year for the Spartans.
