It’s pretty safe to say that Notre Dame football is having a great start with its transfer portal recruiting, and it got even better on Saturday afternoon.
The Irish saw multiple more of the top transfers setting official visits to South Bend, starting with UCF defensive tackle Horace Lockett Jr. The big man in the middle will take a visit to see South Bend at the start of next week according to Matt Zenitz. Lockett previously played for Georgia Tech, but hasn’t made a big impact on the field yet at either location.

Another defensive lineman will also visit the Irish in former Michigan State edge Jalen Thompson. Allen Trieu is reporting that he’ll also take a trip to see Notre Dame early next week. During his junior season, Thompson had 2.5 sacks and 29-tackles.
One the offensive side of the ball, former Iowa State wide receiver Xavier Townsend is another that has set a visit with Notre Dame. According to Chris Hummer, he’s set up trips to Florida State, Purdue and Missouri along with the Irish. Townsend contributed all four seasons, and has had 84 catches for 764-yards and 4 scores playing for UCF and the Cyclones.
Back to the defensive side of the ball, and once again on the lines, the Irish will also bring in Wake Forest defender Mateen Ibirogba. He’ll also visit Texas Tech and Tennessee as reported by Zenitz. In two seasons with the Demon Deacons, Ibirogba had 22 tackles, 2 sacks and a forced fumble.
It’s become pretty clear the areas that Notre Dame wants to improve on via the portal: wide receiver, defensive lineman and in the secondary. They’ll most likely land more than a few of these prospects, solidifying what should be one of the top ranked preseason teams in 2026.
