The Netflix-streamed boxing event featuring Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua drew impressive live viewership, but paled in comparison to Paul’s bout against boxing legend Mike Tyson.
Friday’s event at Kaseya Center in Miami saw former two-time heavyweight boxing champion Joshua knock out Paul in the sixth round. According to a press release from Most Valuable Promotions, an estimated average minute audience (AMA) of 33 million Live+1 viewers globally watched the fight. The press release credits VideoAmp and Netflix for the figure. The release states the event also set a record for the highest-grossing boxing gate in the arena’s history.

The co-main event was a women’s undisputed title bout between champion Alycia Baumgardner and challenger Leila Beaudoin, which drew an estimated AMA of 15 million. Baumgardner retained her undisputed super featherweight status, winning the bout, which was fought under the traditional men’s three-minute, 12-round duration by unanimous decision.
The event reached Netflix’s No. 1 spot in 45 countries, including United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Australia, Mexico and Argentina, while also entering the Top 10 in 91 total countries.
According the press release, EverPass estimated that nearly 600,000 people watched the fight in commercial venues such as bars, restaurants and casinos.
While the numbers are impressive, the Paul vs. Tyson event, which was streamed on Netflix last November, drew an estimated 108 million viewers. September’s Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford bout, another Netflix-streamed event, drew an estimated 41 million.
