Chase Elliott on renewed excitement heading into the NASCAR playoffs
NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Elliott said the regular season can get long and drawn out, making the playoffs something to look forward to.
- Byron’s victory secured his spot in the NASCAR Cup Series Championship for the third consecutive year.
- He joins Denny Hamlin, Chase Briscoe, and Kyle Larson in the Championship 4 race.
William Byron won the NASCAR Martinsville race in dominating fashion on Oct. 26 and clinched a spot in the NASCAR Cup Series Championship.
The Hendrick Motorsports driver started on the pole and led 304 of the 500 laps holding off Ryan Blaney, who led 177 laps in the Round of 8 elimination race at Martinsville Speedway.
Byron, 27, is back in the Championship 4 race for the third consecutive year hoping for his first NASCAR title. He won the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series regular season championship and is a two-time winner of the Daytona 500. He also won the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship in 2017.
Byron joined Denny Hamlin and Chase Briscoe, who had already earned their spots in the Nov. 2 NASCAR Cup Series championship race at Phoenix. Kyle Larson finished fifth and earned the other spot in the championship.
Hamlin and Briscoe did not finish at Martinsville due to engine issues. Larson, who won the championship in 2021, is the only driver in the field who has won a title.
Chase Elliott, who was still in the Round of 8, finished third at Martinsville and Ross Chastain was fourth.
