The NCAA announced Wednesday that three Division I men’s basketball players were banned after an investigation found violations related to sports gambling, per a release.
Fresno State forward Mykell Robinson, guard Jalen Weaver, and San Jose State guard Steven Vasquez have had their NCAA eligibility revoked permanently.
The investigation found that Vasquez, who was roommates with Robinson at Fresno State in 2023-24, had been colluding with Robinson to make sure that bets totalling $2,200 on Robinson’s unders would hit during the 2024-25 season. Robinson also was found to have placed 13 bets that included parlays featuring his own prop bets, according to the release.
Robinson also bet on Weaver’s performance multiple times after the two discussed the lines, and Weaver also bet on his own performance, according to the investigation.
The release said that the investigation started after a tip from Fresno State and a sports betting integrity monitor that flagged suspicious action on Robinson’s lines.
While Weaver did participate in the investigation and agreed to the violations, Robinson and Vasquez did not. All three of them were hit with the permanent loss of eligibility, which the release says is “a starting point for student-athletes who bet on their own games.”
