The Clemson Tigers suffered their first defeat of the 2025-26 men’s college basketball season over the weekend, a 79-74 loss to the Georgetown Hoyas at Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.
Clemson (3-1) led for much of the first half but was outscored 46-36 in the second half. Georgetown’s KJ Lewis had 17 of his 26 points in the second half as the Hoyas led by as many as 10 in the game’s final minutes.

Carter Welling, a transfer from Utah Valley in the WAC, led the Tigers with 14 points in the loss. Nevada transfer Nick Davidson, the Tigers’ leading scorer on the season with 11.8 PPG, added 13 points and five rebounds.
Freshman guard Zac Foster had 11 points and four assists, as Clemson had three players finish in double figures.

Clemson is unranked in the Week 3 USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and received no votes for top 25 consideration after its loss to Georgetown. Three ACC teams were ranked in the Coaches Poll, including the Duke Blue Devils at No. 4, the Louisville Cardinals at No. 6, and the North Carolina Tar Heels at No. 19.
