Nebraska Basketball Beats Creighton 70-51 in a Convincing Defensive Performance

by

Before tonight’s 21 point win over Creighton, the Bluejays had scored 96 points against Nicholls, 76 points against Oregon and 74 points against Baylor.

Tonight they scored 51 points and that was a season low. I would not be surprised if Nebraska ended up holding Creighton to their lowest point total that we will see all season.

After the game, when asked about what they did to frustrate the Creighton Bluejays, Nebraska head coach said that they did a great job of executing the game plan. And one of the statistics they track is tipping passes on defense. Generally the most passing tips they get the more likely they are active on defense and that ended up being true tonight.

As Kent Pavelka’s shirt said after the game, Nebraska is now back-to-back state champs and are still enjoying the longest winning streak in the country which includes the end of last season.

It was a great win for the Huskers which has a great chance to go undefeated in the non-conference this season. They only need to beat North Dakota and New Hampshire at the end of December to pull it off.

But tonight it was Reink Mast who lead the Huskers with an extremely efficient 20 points on 6-12 shooting including 3-5 from the three point line.

Austin Swartz lead Creighton with 16 points coming off of the bench.

We should never complain about beating Creighton but this team is not as good as the crew that Nebraska beat last year. They are obviously going through a transition as a bunch of experienced players from last year’s team is not there. Especially Ryan Kalkbrenner who is currently playing in the NBA for the Charlotte Hornets.

Nebraska is not able to celebrate for long as they are opening the Big Ten Conference season on Wednesday night against Wisconsin. That game is at 8 p.m. on BTN. Wisconsin is currently 7-2 with wins over Marquette, Northwestern and Providence.
