The Iowa Invitational kicked off this week with the first two days of action from Iowa City in the women’s invite.
After two days, Nebraska leads with 454.5 points, followed by Washington State (407.5), Iowa (401), Kansas (325), Illinois (307), Miami (242), UConn (242), Iowa State (234) and Northern Iowa (160).
The meet opened Tuesday with Washington State winning the 200 medley relay. Anna Rauchholz, Emily Lundgren, Addy Lewis and Darcy Revitt earned the win in 1:36.77, holding off Miami (1:39.03) and the rest of the field.
Nebraska claimed the 800 free relay win as Gena Jorgenson, Beatrix Tanko, Riley Miklos and Giulia Marchi got to the wall in 7:04.78, nine seconds ahead of Washington State and the rest of the field.
The individual events began on Day 2:
500 Freestyle
Nebraska’s Gena Jorgenson earned a win in the 500 free, dropping more than a second from prelims to get to the wall in 4:40.29.
Washington State’s Lauren Wille took second in 4:45.64, followed by Kansas’ Gabi Dyer (4:48.52), Nebraska’s Riley Miklos (4:50.87), Miami’s Sophie Lenze (4:51.68), Nebraska’s Giulia Marchi (4:52.16), Iowa’s Jenna Kerr (4:52.50) and UConn’s Norah Rome (4:52.96).
200 IM
Iowa’s Olivia Swalley claimed victory in the 200 IM. She dropped nearly two seconds from prelims to get to the wall in 1:58.09. Her time was nearly a half second ahead of Illinois’ Sara Jass, who finished runner-up in 1:58.66.
Washington State’s Emily Lundgren took third in 2:00.19, just ahead of Iowa State’s Emma Kuhn (2:00.44) and Illinois’ Chloe Diner (2:00.71).
Nebraska’s Marissa Laurin finished sixth in 2:01.43, followed by Washington State’s Ashlyn Hernandez (2:01.82) and Kansas’ Hailey Farrell (2:03.36).
50 Freestyle
Washington State’s Darcy Revitt sprinted to victory in the 50 freestyle, getting to the wall in 21.84. Her time was the only under 22 seconds after dropping a tenth from prelims.
Nebraska’s Beatrix Tanko finished second in 22.17, just ahead of Iowa’s Payton Flowers (22.38), Washington State’s Barbora Mileisyte (22.60) and UConn’s Jessica Sheng (22.69).
Rounding out the top eight were Miami’s Isabelle Videment (22.92), Miami’s Savannah Barr (22.93) and Washington State’s Addy Lewis (23.20).
1-Meter Diving
Kansas diver Shiyun Lai scored 318.85 points to win the 1-meter diving event, the final individual event of the night.
Iowa’s Lainey Woodward finished second with a score of 314.65, followed by Nebraska’s Abigail Baxter, who took third with a 311.05 as only three reached 300 points.
Lize Van Leeuwen of Kansas finished fourth with a score of 290.55, followed by Iowa’s Geneva Pauly (285.05), Iowa State’s Katherine Mitchell (279.10), Iowa’s Zita Bernatsky (275.15) and Illinois’ Matilda Garcia (264.30).
200 Free Relay
Washington State put together the fastest sprint relay with the quartet of Barbora Mileisyte, Issabelle Parrish, Emily Lundgren and Darcy Revitt getting to the wall in 1:29.62.
Iowa took second with Payton Flowers, Audrey Olen, Rachel Dildine and Ella Jean Kelly finishing in 1:30.21.
Third place went to Miami’s Savannah Barr, Isabelle Videment, Abby Vonderahe and Ines Mahmoudi in 1:31.22.
Nebraska (1:31.42), Northern Iowa (1:31.58), Kansas (1:31.80), WSU’s B relay (1:31.91) and Illinois (1:32.48) rounded out the top eight.
