The “Big Amish” keeps bashing his way into the record books. Nick Kurtz, who needed a triple to complete the cycle in the ninth inning of the Athletics’ 15-3 win over the Astros at Daikin Park on Friday, instead clubbed his fourth home run of the night, becoming the first rookie in MLB history with a four-homer game, and the 20th player overall.
Kurtz singled in the first inning, crushed a two-run homer in the second, had a run-scoring double in the fourth and solo homers in the sixth and eighth, setting the stage for his history-making at-bat in the ninth. He also tied Shawn Green on May 23, 2002, with 19 total bases in one game.
