Nicola Pietrangeli finally breaks silence on his jealousy for Jannik Sinner

by

Jannik Sinner has become the symbolic face of Italian sport in recent times, having reached the top of the ATP rankings in a sport in which Italy had always struggled during the modern era. The 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria has been the protagonist of a truly impressive rise in the last two years, completing his maturation path and establishing himself as the best player in the world together with his top rival Carlos Alcaraz.

The Italian star has occupied the first position in the ATP ranking for over 60 weeks in a row and is intent on giving his best to end this season as number 1 as well, although he will have to defend many points between now and the end of the year and Carlitos has not hidden that his main goal is to dethrone the Wimbledon champion.

Fans around the world are dreaming of Sinner and Alcaraz also facing off in the US Open final at the end of the summer, having put on a memorable show in both Paris and London this year. These two players are able to express a much higher level than all their rivals and no one seems able to stay close to them in the near future, unless some young talent has his definitive consecration suddenly.

Sinner continues to dominate the men’s game

Italian tennis legend Nicola Pietrangeli has often been accused of being envious of his young compatriot Sinner.

In a recent interview with 'SuperTennis', he clarified his opinion about Jannik once and for all: “Interviews? They change my words, that’s enough. You know, in the end, what I don’t understand is how people can think I want to speak badly of Sinner because I’m jealous. Everything they tell me has a cost.

But I’m not as rich as Sinner… and I’m just joking because I can already see they’re going to start another controversy.”

The current world No.1 will return to action against Adrian Mannarino for the round of 16 of the Cincinnati Open today.
