No. 25 North Carolina guard Seth Trimble out indefinitely after breaking bone in forearm

No. 25 North Carolina will be without Seth Trimble for the foreseeable future.

Trimble broke a bone in his left forearm during a team workout on Sunday, the school announced. Specifics of the injury aren’t yet known, though he’s going to undergo surgery later this week. Trimble is now out indefinitely. A better timeline for his return will be determined after the procedure.

“So sad for Seth,” head coach Hubert Davis said in a statement. “He’s such a great kid and teammate and has worked so hard for his senior year. He loves being a Tar Heel and we love him. The good news is he will be back at some point this year, and I know he will continue to be a great leader for us until he can get back in the lineup.”

Trimble, a senior captain, averaged 11.6 points and five rebounds per game last season with the Tar Heels. He had 17 points and eight rebounds in their big 87-74 win over No. 19 Kansas on Friday night, too. That pushed them to 2-0 on the year.

With Trimble sidelined, North Carolina will likely have to turn to freshman Luka Bogavac and former West Virginia star Jonathan Powell to fill in the gaps. Bogavac, a freshman out of Montenegro, had five points in 19 minutes against the Jayhawks on Friday after he was cleared to play by the NCAA last week just before their season-opener.

North Carolina went 23-14 last season and just barely made it into the NCAA tournament after it won eight of its last 10 games. The Tar Heels will host Radford next on Tuesday and then NC Central on Friday. They also have matchups with No. 22 Michigan State, No. 9 Kentucky and Ohio State on deck in their nonconference slate before the end of the year, all of which will be that much more difficult to make it through without Trimble.
