If you haven’t heard, Notre Dame men’s basketball will be without star guard Markus Burton for an unknown amount of time, after he recently had surgery on his lower extremities.
His injury freed up a roster spot, and instead of looking for another student, head coach Micah Shrewsberry turned to the football team to fill the need. On Thursday, it was announced that Mark Zackery IV, the freshman cornerback, would be joining the Irish basketball team.

He now joins a long list of Notre Dame student-athletes that have played multiple sports, as some of his current teammates like Drayk Bowen and Jordan Faison do. Zackery starred at Ben Davis High School on the hardwood, helping his team win a state title during his sophomore year.
After a very good freshman season for the Irish football team, and with no bowl game to prepare for, it was a great opportunity for Zackery to continue this athletic endeavors with the basketball team. It will be interesting to see how Shrewsberry eases him onto the court, but it will be fascinating to see Zackery suiting up for the hoops team.
