Notre Dame football has a national recruiting reach, and sometimes it doesn’t alway work out well for the Irish with in-state prospects.
During the 2025 cycle, Notre Dame signed three of the states top-20 players according to the 247Sports Indiana state rankings, as the top three rated players went elsewhere. The one before, 2024, saw a similar result, with the Irish signing two of the top-20 but seeing the top three leave the state. In the current class, Notre Dame doesn’t have a commitment from the top-20 prospects.

The 2027 Indiana class has one elite prospect, wide receiver Monshun Sales, who has expressed interest in the Irish. He’s made a game day visit this fall, but according to a report from Tom Loy (subscription required), Ohio State is viewed as the current leader for the 6-foot, 5-inch and 195-pound star. Sales is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 13 overall player in his class, the top player in the state and No. 3 at his position.
Over the last few years, the Buckeye have done well recruiting Indiana, as they’ve signed Caden Curry, Joshua Mickens, and Mylan Graham with Jerquaden Guilford committed in the 2026 cycle. It’s not something that Notre Dame likes to see, but since they have a national recruiting reach, it’s hard to see all the top prospects from its home state.
