While Notre Dame is off to another great start with a recruiting class, the 2027 group of eight commits currently doesnβt have a 5-star committed.
Itβs still early, as the Irish ultimately signed four of them in the 2026 class according to the 247Sports Composite. Rodney Dunham picked Notre Dame in December of last year, so this class is a bit behind the ball.

According to a report by 247Sports Tom Loy (subscription required), the Irish arenβt gaining much ground with some of the top players in the current cycle. He has in-state wide receiver Monshun Sales not really in the running for his commitment, with Alabama, Indiana and Ohio State being the main players.
Running back Kemon Spell was once considered a Notre Dame lean, but that time has passed and another school has emerged in Georgia. Loy called them currently βthe team to beat,β but did say that he sees the Irish still being a big time player once he decides to commit. Still not great news that Spell doesnβt have Notre Dame at the top of his list.
There wasnβt all bad news in Loyβs report for the Irish, as they are still viewed as contenders for the top overall prospect in the class, edge DJ Jacobs, but not on top. Notre Dame is trending in a positive way for edge Zyron Forstall and reportedly will host him on campus in January.
The goal should be to land at least one of these prospects, but getting at least one more is a viable possibility. This just goes to show that head coach Marcus Freeman is one of the top recruiters in the country, with on-field results as well.
