It was a tale of two games for Notre Dame star Hannah Hidalgo this past week.
In an 85-58 win over Akron last Wednesday, the star Fighting Irish guard had an insane 16 steals in 28 minutes, setting the Division I record for most steals in a game. She also scored 44 points, which just so happened to be the highest-scoring game in ND women’s basketball history.

That effort alone helped her get named as the ACC women’s basketball player of the week for games played November 10-16. Hidalgo became the first player in NBA, WNBA or NCAA history (men or women, any division) with 40 or more points and 15 or more steals in a game.
Hidalgo didn’t quite have such a standout game in the team’s lopsided 93-54 loss to then-No. 14/now-No. 6 Michigan this past Saturday, though.
The Wolverines limited Hidalgo to 12 points on 4-of-21 shooting with seven turnovers. She was able to keep her double-digit scoring streak going, though. She has scored at least 10 points in each game of her career (71 outings), continuing the streak when she converted a a three-point play with 2:21 to go in the worst loss for the Fighting Irish in more than two decades.
Things don’t get any easier for the No. 24 Irish when they host No. 11 USC on Friday.
