Novak Djokovic makes another huge schedule update ahead of AO

by

As was expected, Novak Djokovic will not travel to Chile for the Davis Cup Qualifiers after the Australian Open.

The veteran does not want to travel across the world a couple of days after the first Major of the season and change the surface.

Laslo Djere and Miomir Kecmanovic are also out from the tie, with Viktor Troicki calling Dusan Lajovic, Hamad Medjedovic, Ognjen Mijic and the Sabanov brothers.

On the other hand, Nicolas Massu counts on Cristian Garin, Alejandro Tabilo, Tomas Barros, Nicolas Jarry and Matias Soto. Carried by the partisan crowd, Chile will try to secure another season in the top tier of the competition.

Novak is 41-8 in the Davis Cup singles rubbers. He has been competing for Serbia since 2004, missing only a couple of seasons and helping his country win the trophy in 2010.

Djokovic stated he would love to chase another title for Serbia, but that does not seem likely in the current constellation, as he lacks reliable teammates to chase the crown.

The Serb led his country against Greece in 2024. Last year, he did not play for Serbia. Novak could have chased another Davis Cup title in 2023. He led Serbia into the semi-final and stood a point away from beating Jannik Sinner.

The Italian denied three match points and scored a tight victory to keep his country alive. Italy bested Serbia in the doubles clash, leaving Djokovic and his teammates empty handed.

The 24-time Major winner is not ready to travel to Chile a couple of days after the Australian Open and change the surface so rapidly. The 38-year-old has been dealing with physical issues lately.

He withdrew from the ATP 250 event in Adelaide, taking more time off the court and focusing on the Australian Open. After that, he will likely compete in Doha, leaving no room for Davis Cup in his schedule.
