Novak Djokovic was motivated to lift a trophy in Athens this week. His family moved the tournament from Belgrade to the Greek capital this year, returning the ATP tennis to Athens for the first time since 1994.
In addition, Novak has been living in Athens with his kids and wife since September, enjoying his time in Greece and receiving love and support from the people.
He felt like at home during four matches in the famous city, with the crowd supporting him against Alejandro Tabilo, Nuno Borges, Yannick Hanfmann and Lorenzo Musetti.

The veteran bested Musetti 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in nearly three hours in the final, prevailing and lifting his 101st ATP title, moving two behind Roger Federer and starting a massive celebration with his loved ones.
However, the 38-year-old's trophy came at a heavy physical cost. The legend battled shoulder issues throughout the week but still managed to find that extra energy and overcome every obstacle.
Djokovic withdrew from the ATP Finals shortly after lifting the trophy, revealing that he required strong painkillers to compete in the final and endure the efforts. Once their effects were off, the discomfort returned with intensity.

Thus, the veteran withdrew from the ATP Finals in Turin, deciding not to stress his body and giving it crucial time to recover ahead of 2026. Novak's victory in Athens highlighted his extraordinary willpower and determination to push through adversity for the love of competition.
He has achieved everything, but the competitive fire still burns strong within him, six months before the 39th birthday. The Serb's choice underlines a mature perspective.
Djokovic prioritizes long-term health over short-term glory and more physical problems. His Athens success stands as a testament to his resilience, his 101st ATP title sealed in the most demanding circumstances.

Novak will take a well-deserved rest ahead of focusing on new challenges in 2026. The 24-time Major champion still feels competitive on the most notable scene and the rivals from the top, with his year-end position proving his hopes.
"I had shoulder issues during the entire tournament. I took some strong painkillers to compete in the final. When after effects go down, it will not be pleasant. I was unable to play in Turin at the required level due to my issues.
That's why I withdrew," Novak Djokovic said.
