Two Special Olympics short documentaries are now streaming on Kanopy, the free video streaming platform available in 53 countries and accessible through public and university libraries (see the list of markets below). With a reach of almost 160-Million library card holders, Kanopy looks to engage viewers through an educational lens sharing content from other top streamers and film production companies such as Paramount, HBO documentary films and Samuel Goldwin Films.
The Special Olympics documentaries are:
- The international film festival award winning A Special Olympics Story: Chris Nikic – Amidst this Special Olympics Florida athlete’s astounding athletic accomplishments and intellectual disability, Chris Nikic’ greatest aspirations include homeownership and falling in love. Follow his journey as all his dreams converge.
- The True Beauty of Cape Town – Special Olympics South Africa athlete Eltheo is changing lives and giving back to his community by coaching women’s football and keeping kids off the street.
Kanopy picked the month of July to premiere the videos to coincide with the U.S. based Disability Pride Month. Special Olympics and Kanopy are currently discussing plans to offer more Special Olympics content later this year and beyond.
This is a major step as Special Olympics expands onto new platforms to further amplify amazing stories within the movement. These strides bring awareness and accessibility to new audiences and further the mission of Special Olympics being Always On!
