Head coach Sherrone Moore is expected to serve a self-imposed two-game suspension plus an additional one-game suspension.

The Wolverines’ penalties sparked a wide range of reactions from across social media including a sarcastic one from a Big Ten general manager as told by CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.

“Good for them,” the unnamed GM wrote with an ‘lol’ to indicate sarcasm.

“I guess the powers that be felt that was adequate punishment and losing that amount of money will make people think twice before breaking the rules.”

A national championship winning former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback also shared his thoughts on social media, during which he called out the NCAA and compared the scandal to the use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs).

Former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones watches warm ups before the start of the College Football Playoff National Championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on January 20, 2025.

“So a slap on the wrist for cheating at its highest level,” former Buckeyes national title winner Cardale Jones wrote on his X account.

“What Michigan did is a slight step below on players using PEDs,” he added.

“No place for cheating in any level of sports, what a joke @NCAA,” Jones said, retweeting a post from the Urban Meyer, Mark Ingram and Rob Stone led ‘Triple Option’ podcast.

Jones led the Buckeyes to the 2014-15 national championship, which included a 59-0 win over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game and playoff wins over Alabama and Oregon.

A former backup, Jones took over for then-injured Buckeyes star J.T. Barrett before leading Meyer’s team on its historic run.

Jones’ message came amid critical comments by Paul Finebaum on Buckeyes coach Ryan Day. The Bucks made college football history ahead of the 2025 season.

With the Michigan penalties out of the way, the focus now shifts to college football’s opening weekend, with Ohio State’s home game vs. Texas the most anticipated game on the week one slate.
