Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin receives Big Ten weekly award for fourth time

by

Ohio State freshman quarterback Julian Sayin continues to rack up the awards and recognition. On Monday, just two days after he completed 20-of-23 passes for 316 yards and four touchdowns, the Heisman candidate was named Freshman of the Week by the Big Ten conference.

Sayin is no stranger to the award. It’s the fourth time he’s been named the Freshman of the Week and he continues to only get better as the season goes on. So far in 2025, Sayin has completed 176-of-218 passes (80.7%) for 2,188 yards and 23 touchdowns to just three interceptions. His performance has quickly vaulted him up the Heisman race to where he is now the betting favorite across multiple online betting sites.

It’s getting late in the season, so Sayin’s rise appears to be at the right time, but there’s still some work to do. Ohio State figures to not be challenged until the regular-season ending game against arch-rival Michigan, so a good performance in that one in front of a national audience, as well as a potential head-to-head matchup with Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza in the Big Ten Championship game could determine whether or not the redshirt freshman ends up in New York, and if he can take home the most coveted individual award in American sports.

Sayin will next be in action against Purdue on the road Saturday. The microscope is now on him, but you have to feel good about his development and what he can do with a suitcase as well.
