Oklahoma football climbs in CBS Sports’ rankings

by

After rising to No. 11 in the USA TODAY re-rank of all FBS teams, the Sooners did the same in CBS Sports’ rankings.

OU rose seven spots from No. 18 up to No. 11 in CBS’ poll, which is composed of college football reporters and analysts votes across CBS Sports’ and 247Sports’ ballots. The Sooners didn’t have to rise as much in this poll as the USA TODAY one, where they went up nine spots.

Eight SEC teams dotted the Top 25 in CBS’ poll with Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss ranked third, fourth, fifth and seventh. Texas, which jumped 11 spots to No. 13, joined Vanderbilt (No. 17), Missouri (No. 20) and Tennessee (No. 24) in the top 25. Missouri will host Texas A&M on Saturday in the only meeting between two ranked teams in the conference for Week 11.

Oklahoma, meanwhile, will wait. The Sooners travel to Alabama on Nov. 15 with a chance at staying in the College Football Playoff picture on the line. The Crimson Tide will be coming off a game against rival LSU just as the Tigers are floundering upon firing head coach Brian Kelly last week.

After the game in Tuscaloosa, Oklahoma will get two Tigers opponents itself. OU will host Mizzou in the penultimate week of the season before getting LSU in Norman at the end of November. LSU enters its game against Alabama ranked No. 37.
