Oklahoma football coach Brent Venables and his staff have been busy out on the road on the phone during the month of January.
On Wednesday alone, the Sooners offered at least five players from the Class of 2027 or 2028 scholarships. Four of the players who picked up offers play defensive back.

The highest rated player of the bunch is Ace Leutele from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. Leutele is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound safety from the ’28 class. He rates as the 81st rank player in the class in the entire country and has already received scholarship offers from six teams that played in this year’s College Football Playoff, including national runner-up Miami (FL).
Cornerbacks Nekhi Lambeth and Jordan Hicks are also in the Class of 2028. The pair have identical scores from 247 Sports’ composite ratings, tying as the 16th best cornerbacks in the class. Lambeth is the fifth-ranked player from Arizona, while Hicks ranks 21st in California.
The two members of the 2027 class who picked up offers were safety Jaden Walk-Green and defensive lineman Yahzeen Zion. Like Lambeth and Hicks, they hail from Arizona (Zion) and California (Walk-Green). Zion is a 6-foot-4, 265-pound defensive lineman who rates as a three-star recruit. Walk-Green is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound safety and also rates as a three-star.
Oklahoma currently has 13 commits in its 2027 class and ranks as the top class in the nation. The Class of 2028 is too early to have proper rankings as 247’s slotting includes only five teams.
