Oklahoma State starting safety Dylan Smith is expected to enter the transfer portal, sources tell On3. The sophomore has played in four games this season and will redshirt, having two more years of eligibility remaining.
The 6-foot, 170-pound safety has 77 career tackles, two tackles for loss, three pass breakups and two interceptions. A former three-star recruit, Smith played and started in 11 games in 2024, missing only the game at BYU due to injury. He tied for sixth on the team with 42 tackles.

Only days before hosting Baylor last week, Oklahoma State fired Mike Gundy. The move marked the end of a 21-year stint for the former Cowboys quarterback as the head coach of his alma mater.
Oklahoma State’s decision to fire Gundy opened the 30-day transfer portal window for Oklahoma State players, which Dylan Smith is taking advantage of. NCAA rules allow athletes on a team with a coaching change to enter the portal the day after the change.
The Cowboys fired defensive coordinator Todd Grantham on Sunday following the Baylor loss in which his defense surrendered 612 yards to the Bears. In the 69-3 loss to Oregon earlier this year, the Cowboys surrendered 631 yards.
Gundy’s firing is one of four Power Four programs to fire a head coach before the end of September. The college football transfer portal does not have any firm dates yet; however, the spring portal window has been eliminated.
Dylan Smith’s decision to enter the portal now gives him a jump start on the rest of college football to find a home for the 2026 season.
