Competition Scheduled Revealed as Olympic Games in Los Angeles Just Three Years Away
Today marks three years out from the Opening Ceremony of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, which will become the first city to serve as Olympic host on three occasions. The next Summer Games will run from July 14-30, and will feature the swimming competition as part of Week Two at SoFi Stadium. Swimming is typically a Week One sport, but it will switch with athletics for 2028.
To mark three years out from Los Angeles, organizers revealed the competition schedule for the 2028 Games.
SoFi Stadium and the L.A. Memorial Coliseum will both be used for the Opening Ceremony. Afterward, SoFi will be prepared to hold swimming action in front of 38,000 spectators. According to the LA28 Organizing Committee, the last session of swimming will conclude just before the Closing Ceremony, making one of the 400-meter medley relays the last medal event of the Games.
The first day of swimming will be held on July 22 and competition in the pool will wrap up on July 30. During the nine days of action, 50-meter stroke events will be held at the Olympic Games for the first time.
The last time the Summer Games were held in the United States was 1996, when Atlanta was the host. Los Angeles previously served as host in 1932 and 1984.
